75) Emmy Lou…
In 1944, Marty (Martha) Links created BOBBY SOX, named for a popular teen fashion of wearing socks that were folded down to the ankle. The strip explored the trials and tribulations of teenage life of the time. When the term “bobby sox” began to go out of fashion, she renamed the feature Emmy Lou.
In 1979, Ms. Links decided to retire the strip, feeling she no longer had a connection to teenagers of the current time. She continued to create, producing greeting cards and paintings until her death in 2008.
