76) Cartoon Cavemen…

Alley Oop by V.T.Hamlin 6-19-1937

Here are two examples of cartoon cavemen.

Alley Oop was created in 1932 by V.T.Hamlin, who wrote and drew the strip until he retired in 1971. Hamlin passed the strip to his assistant, Dave Graue, who continued Oop’s adventures until 2001, when Jack & Carole Bender took over. Upon the Benders’ retirement in 2018, the strip went into a brief hiatus until revived in 2019 by Joey Alison Sayers and Jonathan Lemon.

The first Flintstones animated episode aired in 1960. The show was a huge success and gave birth to a comic strip rendition that first appeared in October 1961.  The McNaught Syndicate carried it until 1988, when McNaught went out of business. The Editors Press Service revived it in 1994 and ran it until 1998.

Of little note: I did some storyboard work on “The Flintstones meet The Frankenstones.”
