For Better or Worse by Tad Dorgan circa 1920

Tad Dorgan’s For Better or Worse premiered in 1922. Fifty seven years later, Lynn Johnston’s For Better or For Worse was introduced to comic readers. Similar titles, but very different execution.

Dorgan’s strip often highlighted the the usual tropes of the battle of the sexes; miscommunication, differing points of view, etc. Lynn Johnston certainly touched upon these themes, but elevated her strip to a new level, creating an epic story of family life in modern times filled with humor and touches of poignant reality.
