Cartoon by Bill Tidy

Despite the massive volume of comic strips and comic books produced in other parts of the world, American audiences are generally unfamiliar with the wealth and vitality of cartoon material from foreign lands. Andy Capp, Fred Basset, Modesty Blaise and a very few others have succeeded in infiltrating American comics pages or our consciousness.

Displayed for your enjoyment are the works of two notable British cartoonists, Bill Tidy and Dominic Poelsma

I picked up the original Clive comic strip when I visited England in the mid 70’s. The strip, written by Angus McGill and drawn by Poelsma, followed the escapades of Clive and his relationship with family and friends. It later morphed into a strip about Clive’s younger sister, Augusta.
