I think when authors write a book, no matter what compels them to do so, they cannot help but fantasize about the possibility of success...despite burying that notion as deeply as they can.

I’ve previously written about what inspired me to write The Mythfits trilogy. For those of you who don’t feel like browsing through past posts, I wrote them in reaction to some unsatisfying books that I read to my daughter when she was a child. Mix that spark with whatever inherent creative nature I possess and, wallah, I wrote three books.

When I was first published I began utilizing Google Alerts to notify me whenever The Mythfits was mentioned in any internet post. Well, recently my books have shown up as free downloads on a few different foreign sites. Of course, these downloads are completely unauthorized and without compensation. 

I have very mixed feelings about all this. The books have never generated much of an income, but it’s still theft. And one of the sites posted a respectable number of downloads, so the books do have a small following of sorts. It’s being read.

Is this success? I’d like to think so.
