Kudzu by Doug Marlette 11-28-1985

Doug Marlette was a Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist, comic strip creator and novel writer who died in a tragic car accident in 2007.

His political cartoons unabashedly skewered anyone (of any political bent) who displayed their hypocrisy, ignorance or poor judgment. Marlette’s comic strip, Kudzu, ran from 1981 to 2007. Kudzu Dubose, a teenage resident of mythical Bypass N.C., was the lead character, but the strip also featured jokes that highlighted the supporting cast. Reverend Will B. Dunn was a popular character in the strip, spouting religious platitudes with the tinge of greed common to evangelical preachers.
