210) Toonerville…

Toonerville Folks by Fontaine Fox was a single panel comic strip that ran from 1913 to 1955. It featured the citizens of the small town of Toonerville.

The success of the comic strip created a huge demand for merchandising, resulting in books, toys, animated cartoons and a number of live action shorts. One of the most popular characters in the cast was Mickey McGuire, played by Joe Yule, Jr. on the silver screen. The young actor went on to star in many more films under his new stage name…Mickey Rooney.

The comic strip ceased publication in 1955 when Fontaine Fox retired and refused to let any other artist tinker with his creation.
