Short Ribs by Frank O’Neal (1921-1986) first appeared in 1958, distributed by the Newspaper Enterprise Association syndicate. While it had no regular characters, O’Neal often repeated the strip’s setting; such as Medieval Europe or the American Old West.

O’Neal left the strip in 1973 to pursue advertising work, leaving Short Ribs in the hands of his assistant, Frank Hill. The strip was discontinued in 1982.
