217) Bloom County…

Original Bloom County by Berke Breathed 2-27-1988

It has been announce that Bento Box Entertainment is developing a new Bloom County animated series.

Berke Breathed created The Academia Waltz for The Daily Texan, the student newspaper for the University of Texas. When The Washington Post Writers Group approached Breathed to do a nationally syndicated strip, the strip became Bloom County. Breathed’s work derives its humor by satirizing current political and social events. Breathed was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in editorial cartooning in 1989.

Bloom County ran from 1980 to 1989. In 1989 Breathed revamped the strip to Outland (Sundays only), which ran until 1995. Some years later Breathed did the Sunday only strip, Opus (2003-2008), which featured the popular penguin character from his previous strips. Since then Breathed has occasionally posted new material via Facebook.
