221) Tarzan Animated…

There’s a very fine article by Jim Korkis on the Cartoon Research website that tells the background of the first appearance of Tarzan in animation. (www.cartoonresearch.com/index.php/the-animated-tarzan/)

I had only very minor involvement in the production of Filmation’s Tarzan, doing some storyboard revision and interstitials. Filmation produced 36 episodes of Tarzan that were presented on CBS across numerous seasons with ever changing titles.

  1. Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle (1976-1977)

  2. Batman/Tarzan Adventure Hour (1977-1978)

  3. Tarzan and the Super Seven (1978-1980)

  4. The Tarzan/Lone Ranger Adventure Hour (1980-1981)

  5. The Tarzan/Lone Ranger/Zorro Adventure Hour (1981-1982)

After Filmation closed down, Lou Scheimer, the former head of the studio, tried to reignite interest in an animated Tarzan series, but failed to sell the show. Below are the first two pages of the presentation booklet that was created in the attempt to find a buyer.
