Original Pickles by Brian Crane 6-2-2002

Brian Crane was a graphic designer and art director when he decided to fulfill a childhood dream of becoming a newspaper comic strip cartoonist.

Crane was nearing forty when he created Pickles. The strip features Earl and Opal Pickles, a retired couple in their seventies who interact with their daughter (Sylvia), son-in-law (Dan), grandson (Nelson), dog (Roscoe), cat (Muffin), Opal’s sister (Pearl), and Earl’s friend (Clyde).

Crane originally based his creation on his in-laws, but after thirty-three years on the comics page, I suspect he now draws inspiration from his own life.
