227) Yet Another Pantomime Strip…

Original Louie by Harry Hanan 1-19-1974

British cartoonist Harry Hanan (1916-1982) created Louie for The People, a weekly London tabloid. The feature caught the attention of a syndicate and was soon appearing in newspapers around the world. Louie was a hapless individual, much in the tradition of many strips where the central character is victim to forces beyond their control.

Like Henry (see post 3-15-22) and Ferd’nand (see post 3-29-22), Louie was a dialogue free visual gag feature that was accessible to readers of any language.

Hanan and his creation retired in 1976.
