370) Pajama Diaries/Cul de Sac…

In 2011 a number of cartoonists honored Richard Thompson by incorporating an homage to his work on Cul de Sac into their own comic strips. Thompson had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2009 and by 2012 had to abandon his brilliant career. Sadly, Thompson died in 2016 from complications of the disease.

Posted above is the work of Terri Libenson, the extremely talented creator/cartoonist of the comic strip The Pajama Diaries and an ever growing series of books for young readers. As you can see, the initial work was done in  traditional pen and ink, but then scanned into a computer for the finished strip.

When I met Richard Thompson at the San Diego Comic Con (some time before his diagnosis), he kindly autographed a copy of his Richard’s Poor Almanac collection for me. The note refers to my wife’s assistance in getting his presentation up and running as he was experiencing some computer difficulties.
