Jimmy Swinnerton (1875-1974) was a cartoonist and landscape artist who greatly influenced the development of the comic strip as an art form at the end of the 19th century and into the 20th century. He is best known for his comic strips The Little Bears, Mr. Jack, and Little Jimmy. Little Jimmy was his most successful and long running feature that premiered in 1904 and ended in 1958.
Little Jimmy, a wide-eyed innocent little boy who was prone to falling into chaotic circumstances, also appeared in a Betty Boop cartoon in 1936.
Swinnerton was also an acclaimed landscape painter, depicting the arid landscapes of the American Southwest.
