George and Virginia Smith were the Duggars of their time. They had ten daughters and one son. Thankfully there were no reality shows in 1950, so they created the comic strip feature, The Smith Family, loosely based, of course, on their own experiences raising a lot of children.

It was a sweet, benign family strip that first appeared in the Boston Globe in 1950 and was syndicated to other newspapers across the country until 1997. As a youngster, I remember reading it in one of the Cleveland newspapers. One can read more about the strip at… www.thsmithstrip.com/
