52) Ark Animation…
As mentioned in a previous post, Jim Keeshen, Barry Whitebook and I formed a partnership in the mid-seventies. We called ourselves ARK ANIMATION. We did a number of commercials (Sparkletts, Aamco, etc.) and Sesame Street spots. We also attempted to do some personal projects. Mine was a frenetic little short titled UGLY. Forty plus years later I don’t have any footage of this project, but I suspect I would feel embarrassed by its content and execution. Its one saving grace was some excellent music by my friend Carla Bartlett.
UGLY was a parable, sort of a Fractured Fairy Tale, about an ugly little boy who is forced to wear a mask until the guidance of a gargoyle helps him break free of the judgement of others. I think a psychologist would have a field day with the themes of this little film.
