79) Happy Hooligan…

Happy Hooligan by Frederick Opper 8-22-1924

Frederick Opper, creator of Happy Hooligan and many other comic features, is considered one of the pioneers of comic strip art. In his time, Opper’s characters were as popular as Snoopy or Mickey Mouse are today, appearing on stage, in films and a plethora of merchandising. Opper, who never used assistants, continued producing comic art until 1932 when his eyesight began to fail. He died in 1937.

Looking at this strip, I can’t help but feel that the dog is a Republican.
