Sally Forth by Greg Howard began in 1982 as a cute, but rather tame comic strip distributed by King Features. It featured the trials and tribulations of an American middle class white family and its interactions with work, family and school. The main characters are Sally (a working mother & wife), her often child-like husband Ted (a white collar professional), and Hilary (the Forths’ only child).

Greg Howard, the strip’s creator, turned the drawing tasks over to  Craig MacIntosh in 1992 before leaving the feature completely in 1998. Steve Alaniz wrote the strip for a few years be fore its present author, Francesco Marciuliano, took over. Jim Keefe replaced MacIntosh for the drawing chores in 2013.

The strip has certainly evolved with all the changes in creative talents. It’s now one of my favorite features, often entering the realm of the surreal. Francesco Marciuliano has done a brilliant job of making the strip hilariously absurd.
