Agnes by Tony Cochran (born in 1952) is an unusual offbeat comic strip that debuted in 1999 and focuses on the life of a little girl who lives in a trailer park with her grandmother. Very few strips represent the plight of abject poverty with the kind of humor found in Agnes. The resourceful main character is alway scheming to rise above her situation, but is often thwarted by her grandmother, school officials, reality, and her slightly more jaded best friend.
