I can certainly relate to this early Luann comic strip. I often feel that my office is like one enormous scrapbook. At times it feels like a scrapbook with books, papers and memorabilia scattered all around.

I really admire Greg Evans’ work on Luann. It’s a sweet, funny soap opera of a comic strip. Since the time of the sample above, it has evolved into a less cartoony, more sophisticated storytelling experience.

Greg Evans was born on November 13, 1947, in Burbank, California, Evans began drawing at a young age and pursued a career in art. He attended California State University, Northridge, where he studied art and psychology, and later earned a teaching credential.

Luann debuted in newspapers on March 17, 1985, and follows the life of a teenage girl named Luann DeGroot as she navigates the ups and downs of adolescence. The comic strip covers themes like friendship, family, romance, and the challenges of growing up. Over the years, as the characters have evolved, the strip has addressed various social issues, making it relatable to a broad audience.

Evans has received several accolades for his work on “Luann,” including the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year in 2003. He has also been involved in various charitable activities and has used his platform to support educational causes.
