Jimmy Murphy’s Toots and Casper was distributed by King Features Syndicate from 1918 to 1956. The strip’s leading characters were Toots and Casper Hawkins, their son Buttercup, and their dog Spare-ribs.

The Hawkins were an idealized American family whose adventures mostly revolved around domestic disputes and interactions with neighbors and relatives.

The strip was very successful in its time, giving birth to a myriad of merchandising and even a series of silent comedy film shorts.
