343) Haven Isle…

It was in the mid 1980’s that my friend Gordon Kent and I worked on a comic strip feature called Haven Isle. It is an early example of my preoccupation/fascination with mythological creatures that led to all the other incarnations of that theme that I have already posted on my blog. There’s a few Haven Isle strips posted on my Gallery page, but I found a few more examples.

The plot line is pretty simple; a young boy finds himself in a strange land populated by extinct and mythological creatures. Looking at the strips all these years later, I think they have a certain charm even if they’re not uproariously funny. I see them more as setting the stage for what was to come.

There was a new syndicate start-up happening at the time and they expressed some interest in the strip, but neither the syndicate or the strip became realities.
