Krazy Kat by George Herriman 9-22-1932

During the time I was actively collecting original comic art I had two original Krazy Kat pieces. I sold the Sunday page many years ago after I discovered a dealer offering a forgery of the strip I owned. I knew mine was authentic because it had the engraver’s seal on the back and I had purchased it from a reliable seller. The dealer withdrew the forgery from sale, but the experience prompted me to sell the genuine art. I no longer possess the daily strip (shown above) as it was amongst the first wave of my current divestiture of my collection.

My admiration for George Herriman’s genius is beyond measure. When I stumbled upon the video posted below, I felt it was worth sharing as it nicely encapsulates the excellent book by Michael Tisserand titled Krazy: George Herriman, a Life in Black and White.
